1. Presentation: "Cadence" by Vanessa and "Refrain" by Aimee
2. Discuss p 213 poems for essay
4. HOMEWORK: p213 Critical Response for "Sonnet 75" and "Flood Tide." Assignment due Friday: Evaluate how each author's message is supported by the use of such literary elements as imagery and tone.
We are looking for samples of work that are considered either novice, partly proficient, proficient, or advanced.
Period 3
1. AR reading 10 mins DEADLINE for 1st AR book is Monday, Aug 28
2. Checking of books being read for AR. Students must have an AR book to be quizzed on by Friday.
HOMEWORK: p40 Analyzing Language #s 1,2,3, and second #3 after reading pp 10-11 on alliteration and kennings.
Period 4
1. SRF and get STAR test results
2. Make "Vocabulary List" Write words and definitions: 1) diction (n) the author's word choice, 2) figurative (adj) using fanciful or imaginative language, 3) literal (adj) to the letter, exact, meaning exactly what is said (continued)
3. Reading focus on "figurative" language like "the sun is a lion roaring across the sky."
4. Read aloud the plot summary of Beowulf and begin reading the selection "Grendel."
