HOMEWORK due Thursday: Page 213 Critical Response--Write a 400-500 word essay w/intro, body ¶s, conclusion comparing the two poems as suggested. Also hand in your plan of comparison for Sonnet 75 and The Flood Tide comparing message, imagery, and tone. When you decide what you like, also discuss what is considered quality writing and whether you think the authors did a good job with their works.

Descriptive: Uses the 5 senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch) Use present tense. e.g. "I see" NOT "I saw" (past tense)
Narrative: Reporting or telling a story. Use verbs in past tense. e.g." I went home." NOT "I go home." (present tense)
Expository: Exposes or explains the facts; gives information Use present tense. e.g. "Cornell notes use 2 columns."
Persuasive: Presents an opinion and supports it with evidence. Use present tense. e.g. "Hawaii is great. It has beaches, comfortable temperatures all the time, and people who have the aloha spirit of love."
2. Write all 4 paragraphs with at least 35 words each: DESCRIPTIVE, NARRATIVE, EXPOSITORY, PERSUASIVE.
HOMEWORK: Finish all 4 paragraphs

2) IMAGERY (literal: exactly what it says)
3) FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE (figures of speech like METAPHOR)
4) MEANING of the poem (what you think it means)
5) MUSICAL (sound) DEVICE (rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia)
